Spiritual Realm

[:1]Just had this idea, when I was thinking about the three usual arenas of battle; land, air, and sea. I dont know if adding a fourth arena would necessarily make the game any better, but if done properly it could add depth.
Imagine a spiritual realm in the game. It would certainly fit in with this game. The interaction between realms would be similar to the interaction between land and air or sea and land. Certain units would be able to affect the other realms, while other units would be realm specific. Like Air fighters vs bombers. Spiritual units could travel freely around the entire map. Demons, angels, spirits, balrogs, etc...
Certain units would be able to enhance allied non-spiritual units by shielding, gathering intel, stealthing, etc... While other spiritual units would be able to influence the realm of mortals directly, causing fear, paralysis, death, in enemy units.
Some units like wizards, mages, could travel between realms to act as defense against spiritual units. Anyway, the possibilities are many. It could be pretty cool,|||You are decirbing the central mechanic of a game, (a puzzel game of some sort I think) not a feature to be tacked onto an RTS mid devlopment.|||It's still very early in the development and it would be a great time to start thinking about this.
I love the idea for several reasons:
- it increases the depth of possible strategies significantly
- it gives KnC something special, something no or few other RTS have
- it is easy to understand for new players but will be difficult to master, as a good game mechanic should be
- the ability to move to any point on a map besides flying will allow for interesting strategies
- it fits perfectly into the fantasy scenario
- it opens up so many new possibilities for campaign missions and special gameplay maps
Great idea electro!
