Menu Idea ( epic! )

Hi there, I have a good idea for an intro / menu
There is a horse, and the camera rides onto it.
You are closing in on a castle.
To give you an idea I made this:

And:

So, while in the menu in background you ride on a horse and keep coming closer to your castle.
I hope this sounds good, and if it does please tell me.
I'm also making my own game, and I use these drawings but not as a menu.
THansk.
Laura|||You mean like in the Legend of Zelda..?|||Honestly, I'd rather something simpler to make loading and navigating the menu as quick as possible. We all have bad memories of the SC1/FA menues....
Mike|||Yeah, having the engine already running for the background would increase the initial loading time of the game. I don't like it either.

Remember when TF2 had a map as the background by default?|||Yup, I agree with OK and Spooky on this one. The FA main menu made you wait for 2-3 seconds and it was really annoying after a while. The menus should be accessible as fast as possible and loading times should be kept to a minimum.
Very nice concept art though. :D|||Col. Jessep|||No, it didn't but it also added a few second to the loading time. It was probably worse because you could already see the buttons but not use them. Anyway, the faster the menu loads the better.|||Simple > Pretty
The flickering menu in FA, which some of the dev says they don't have(LIARS) is very annoying, when you just wanna go in and watch a replay.. The time is takes for the menu to flicker and slide in and out isn't long, but it's long enough to enough the piss out of me..
Thank god for mods, but I've lost that mod, so now I'm stuck with flickering menus..|||It's just
image_xscale = 0.1
image_yscale = 0.1
image_alpha = 0

--
if image_xscale < 1{
image_xscale+=0.01
image_yscale+=0.01
image_alpha+=0.01
}

I don't know or it takes much memory / speed.|||laurabollings|||HighFlyer15|||i disagree
menus with feeling is awesome! if they with a nice design, a nice track and some nice visuals can get your mind into a medieval type of mood it would be awesome... and give me a break! having a nice clip rolling behind the menues can't be that computer heavy... i mean it woudnt even add a second of loading if optimized properly ( i really have no idea :P, feel free to shout at me )|||HighFlyer, Google healthandmana and you'll find a pleasant surprise.|||Vimes is random|||I don't see a problem with a movie running in the background. As far as I can tell, the OP wants a menu background that will change based on what you clicked. All the SupCom games have animated backgrounds, so I don't see what the problem is.|||People are just stating their preference of having a simple, quick, and responsive menu. A sentiment i will join, but not without saying that a good background video will help to improve first impressions.
|||X-Cubed|||re1wind|||follow how vanilla Sup1 did it; play the Seton's trailer between Cybran and UEF in the background and have the UI fully functional at all times.
while some people like to sit back and enjoy the scenery, some people don't. the best solution is to let the impatient ones get their-game-on, and let the other join at their own leisure.|||BulletMagnet|||One of the best things about Demigod was its menu. I was up and in the game in seconds PLUS is had a great feel to it. Sounds were simple but perfect, everything was quick and intuitive. There is a lot to be said for that.
Anyone in here ever played Starcraft? Warcraft? Great look, great feel, VERY simple, very fast. Some of the best. This should be what GPG is aiming for. I want to click my K&C icon and be in a game in less than 30 seconds.
While I'm a big supporter of Steam here, something to think about when it comes to matchmaking and simplicity. L4D is the model to follow there.
Just remember that it is possible to have that form and function in one place. Demigod was close.
For what it's worth...|||graphical menus is nice but you got to have an option to put it on plain background some pc's really dont like pretty menus :p
