[:1]Ok so i got this idea from playing company of heros. What if you could research special off map units. For example, an elite company of knights or a few of........... ok lets say you dont have crossbowmen just archers as units. If you research a certain thing then you get a few archers with an "experimental" crossbow to be called in from off map. Get it? Also you could have it so that you can use this ability a multitude of times if 1. you pay more each time 2. the ability has a cool down time. I realize you already have "super units" (excuse my lack of a better term). But what if each king had his own.......im not really sure. Maybe a unit or a power that could only be used once a game (unit would have a time limit say three or four minuets.) just to turn the tide of a losing battle. I was at one point developing my own RTS. So i have alot of diffrent ideas. Some that are conventional and others not so much.|||Fremen from a palace.|||It doesnt really fit within the Chris Taylor way of thinking. The idea is that if you are getting hit by something you should be able to hit it back, Structures like Nukes and Artillary have almost unlimited range but have a building that can be destroyed to remove the ability from the player.
From a practical point of view you would have thought that nukes and artillary might as well be off-map support with a control building, but they each simulate trajectories that are important to how they are used.
Nuke/artillary inspired buildings - yes, off-map unsimulated support - no
In short, it may work in other games, but it would be extremely uncharactoristic of a CT game to have something like this in.
I personally wouldnt like it for the same reasons.
