Steam for distribution *only*

[:1]it's been brought up before, but I think it needs to be brought up again.
please do not use Steam as the mulitplayer client. Steam's recent update has caused a lot of problems for players (not saying all players, but look on the forums and you'll see it has affected people).
Steam as a distibution and sales platform is fine, even recommended, but for the love of all that is good and right; don't make a multiplayer system that hinges on a platform that goes up and down like a yoyo!|||I love yo-yos!!
Seriously tho, the new update for steam has made it very difficult for me to find an automatch game, and almost impossible to join a game in the lobby....
So yes, dont use steam for MP, i like gpgNet just fine thank you :-)|||I disagree. Please GPG, keep using SteamWorks. It works flawlessly, compared to any other solution that can be brought up.

Not using SteamWorks just because of some temporary problems would be silly.|||I agree with spooky on this one, steam has always worked a lot better for me than any other solution so far.|||Spooky|||in before totonka tells us that we have to pry Steam from his cold, dead fingers. Nurse, bring the chain saw! :D
I'm with BulletMagnet on this. If SupCom2 wouldn't require Steam I would most likely have bought it. I don't want the Steam client on my PC.|||I'm with Spooky, I've had Steam on my comp for almost 4 years now and I've never had any issues with it, as far as online goes, I'd say its at LEAST the equal of any other current online client, at least.
Stick with it GPG.
Mike|||Mike has spoken.
End of discussion.|||I prefer distribution only.|||Col. Jessep|||randomlegend|||Col. Jessep|||BulletMagnet|||Spooky you will have to admit that every point I posted was at least a problem in the past. I might not be up to date on the latest Steam news and some of the problems might have been fixed or improved by now. Steam is still way behind Impulse when it comes to respecting the rights of the customers though. And Valve only made those improvements because players protest. For this very reason I will keep comparing them to the highest available standard and criticize them. There still is a lot of room for improvement imo.
Btw, Impulse has regional pricing on some products but as far as I know Valve just screws us Europeans even if the publisher doesn't demand it. And as a distribution service that doesn't need to pay for producing DVDs, manuals, boxes or storage capacities their prices are pretty ridiculous. Ordering a game with handling and shipping in the UK is cheaper than transferring data over the net, WTF?|||All these features have been there for quite some time now. The offline mode was added later, but even that was a few years ago now.
Regarding the prices: the publisher of each game sets the price for the region. If the publisher doesn't define the prices before hand, Steam proposes the prices and then the publisher has to agree on them.
Btw. you can look on http://www.steamprices.com/ in order to see which games are cheaper in your region on steam and which ones are more expensive.|||As if GPGNet was perfect and pure. I can't open a user profile in the first 5 minutes without it crashing on me. And don't talk about patching SupCom using an unpatched version of GPGNet. It likes to update games without updating itself first. I've also heard about the Vault being buggy and unavailable to many users, so I wouldn't say that GPGNet is any better than Steam.
Oh, and GPGNet also runs in the background during online games, as well as being unable to access community features in-game or in-lobby.
I think Steam is the better platform as I've never had any problems with it that weren't due to my own actions (joining the UI beta too early).|||I also think they should use steam, these days I try and buy all of my games from steam as well.
Regarding the network issues, it's not worth including any recent issues with the steam interface change, there are always issues that popup when a major change occurs.
Apart from that GPG just needs how to best use SteamWorks to their advantage and couple it with any homegrown stuff to get the most out of it.|||I prefer traditional box with game :)|||szemrany|||Hooray, they're going to use Steam again :).|||Smart move :)|||Yeah, steam is great for me. I've never had a problem with it. I really love being able to get the web browser in game, and it is easy to talk to others and invite them to games in game without any problems. I had plenty of problems with GPG (many functions just refused to work) and it crashed often. Steam doesn't, and actually makes my life easier when gaming.
So I'm glad to hear they are using it again.|||DO NOT i repeat DO NOT, use steam as only sales platform if i can't buy a game on a disc in a shop i don't buy it, so please dont i really like what im seeing till now|||aerlfredith|||it happened with the red alert 3 expansion, which was really lame :)
