[:1]Wait, why are we looking at the transport as some unit. why not think of it as a mobile piece of terrain.
The units you place on it provide defense, and get an armour bonus. imagine attacking a castle by sea with trebuchets set up on the deck of a large barge-like ship. alone, they would be quite vulnerable, but if you add a squad of archers, it could make for some interesting battles.
also, battleships that act the same way (but hold only 1-2 squads) (40-60 men) would make naval battles interesting. having realistically scaled ships pull up and fire ballistas into eachother while the troops on deck battle it out would be supremely cool.
having a transport pull up to land sideways and deploying multiple ramps would speed up boarding/disembarking.
dinjin2|||If it's doable then i give a big yes with an exclamation mark behind it.|||Go play FA with my transport abuse mod. You will see what can be done if units can fire from a transport like normal.|||Eh, you run into problems with this system. I don't want to see a resurgence of ghetto gunships with KnC. If units fire from transports you'd have to make the transports extremely week for balance, and at that point people would not really want to use transports. They should be for getting units in and out of battle safely and quickly, not as attack platforms IMO.|||Now that i think about it, transports could be massively abused. However, if you just implement them as movable terrain from which units cannot fire, i would love it. This allows you to realistically carry only a set amount of troops that the transport would have room for in a visual way (instead of checking garrison counters etc).
Say a light. transport has 3x6 slots... it could carry 18 footsoldiers, or 9 cavalry... etc..
plus, boarding becomes easier with this system - it allows you to visually load a transport after a transport touches down and lays down ramps. u just move units onto it.
