I was going to buy SupCom2. A friend of mine bought it from Steam and started it up. Played for about 5 minutes, and CRASH! He sent in a message to support after several more crashes. He received a message in return that stated that SupCom2 did NOT support 64-bit OS. =O
Now he's stuck with a game he can't play because he runs Win7 64-bit. I do as well, and I'm glad I waited so I didn't end up wasting cash on a game I couldn't play.
We build 64-bit systems (as you may know), in order to utilize more than 4GB of RAM.
My current system is currently
i7 920
12GB RAM
1TB HDD
2x GTX260's SLI
Windows 7 64-bit
(etc)
PLEASE GPG, support 64-bit OS with this upcoming game, Kings and Castles. There are many of us in the PC gaming market looking forward to this game. I humbly request that you don't shut us out like you did with SupCom2. Let us 64-bit guys enjoy it in it's FULL glory!
Thanks!|||Oh, what is this? I run 64-bit Windows 7, and I've been playing Supcom 2 flawlessly since release.
Huh.|||sanman|||You will find that most people on this forum can play SupCom2 fine on a 64-bit OS without problems. While this is a relatively small proportion of the playerbase, this means that SupCom2 can run on 64-bit. Also, what tech support should have said is that SupCom2 is not a 64-bit game. It's a 32-bit program that, like most other 32-bit programs, can run on 64-bit systems. 64-bit is not officially supported, but to say that very few people can run the game on 64-bit systems is just wrong. According to what Tech Support says, the vast majority of games cannot be played on 64-bit systems because most games are not 64-bit capable. I'd say 90% of games are 32-bit programs but almost all of them can run flawlessly on 64-bit systems. No official support is required.
Your friend's problem is most likely due to some other problem in his system, not the OS type itself.|||64 bit here and no problems at all.|||Now, correct me if i'm wrong here, but would a 64bit program work in 32bit environment? No?
judging from the Steam hardware survey, 33.42% of users have 64bit OS. the other 2/3 of steam users has 32bit os. While win7 64bit might not be that expensive, try convincing a million or so people to upgrade, and hence convince devs to develop in 64bit.|||I think SE's support is acting like douches here. Instead of trying to help a paying customer they refuse to do so because they use a perfectly normal, up to date OS?!? They could at least try to help after a disclaimer!
33% of their customers use Win7 64 bit now and the number will constantly grow in the next few years. As far as we know GPG even develops the games on Win7 64 bit. There is no reason for the publisher not to at least try and help people who have problems on that OS.
I really hope GPG is successful with their new investment system and can put an end to arbitrary publisher idiocy with it!|||Yeah it just sounds like there is some other problem with your buddy's rig. I have no idea what, maybe update the drivers or try reinstalling on a different hard drive or something, but the game is most definitely compatible with 64 bit windows, just like every other 32 bit program. The tech support was just plain lazy and wrong.
Have him post system specs and a dxdiag here and maybe somebody can help him out.|||re1wind|||Assuming that your friend has no HW problem causing the lockups, he only needs to reinstall windows 7 (clean install, not install over install but format c, and then install)
after install, get the latest driver of his: GPU and soundcard (and other hw he may have hooked up)
install steam, DL sc2 (yes dl, don't use some backed up cache files)
and i am sure it will run fine....|||slinki
