If there isn't some really clear evidence of squadage, it is probably jumping the cock to get too bent out of shape about it atm.
I'll go rewatch that now then.|||Nah, they were just grouped. The guys on the right were in some rectangular formation and the guys on the left might have been in some wedge/triangle formation. Still, why wait until the last minute to let them know that forced squads are a horrible idea? Its better to play it safe and let them know early in the development cycle, especially if you see something that even hints at squads.|||That's why you say there are squads in the game? By your misconception Supreme Commander, Forged Alliance and Supreme Commander 2 also have squads
Actually, i say implement a squad system in addition to the unit formation. i.e. 10 soldiers (alt + F1) essentially groups those 10 soldiers into one unit, they will always stick together, defend each other, block enemies, etc. clicking any one of them will select the whole squad.
unsure of further details, too tired to iron them out.|||I have zero objection to squads (so long as they're done Total War style where each soldier is still modeled individually in combat).
Fantasy battles should be about 10s or hundreds of infantry, not 1s. I have no use for ONE footman.
One Dragon Of DOOM? Sure. But ONE footman? No thanks.
As I said in the older squad post.. a lot of melee infantry tactics only make sense with squads anyway. Spears and shields designed for shield and spear walls are not necessarily good tools for 1v1 combat.. And I don't want the tedium/carpal tunnel of queuing up my phalanx of 100 men one hoplite at a time.|||Mr Pinguin|||I forgot to add..
I think GPG will find it much easier to program good unit formations for squads in phalanxes and the like if they're built that way.
It would be nice if individually built units can be grouped and put into really great/useful/customizable formations like those available in Total War and Rise of Nations.. But the auto-formations in SupCom2 are a sign that GPG has a (long?) ways to go there..
I'd rather have squads built together so they can be coded to move and fight in a good formation, instead of squads built 1 by 1 and a sloppy formation system that doesn't put everybody where they need to be to look and feel and work correctly.
